Schedule automatic refresh

Automatic refresh is driven by workflows: open Automation… → Create Workflow, add the templates to refresh, then pick a frequency from hourly to monthly and set the execution time in the scheduler, with optional email notifications. Refreshes run even when the spreadsheet is closed.

Automate with workflows, alerts and backups

Under Automation… you can create multi-step workflows, set cell-value alerts that email you when data crosses a threshold, and enable automatic timestamped spreadsheet backups on every refresh.

Fix a broken workflow

If a scheduled workflow stops running, use the repair option under Automation… to reinitialize the trigger. The Automation menu also lists all spreadsheets with active workflows so you can review what is scheduled where.
