Automation & workflows

Schedule automatic refresh with workflows

Open Automation → Create Workflow, add one or more saved templates, then set the schedule (hourly, daily, weekly or monthly) in the Scheduler tab and click Apply and Schedule.

Creating a scheduled workflow

Get email notifications and attachments

In a workflow's Emails tab, enable notifications on success or error, add recipients and a custom message, and optionally attach the sheet as XLSX, PDF or CSV.

Create automatic backups

In the Automatic Backups tab, enable Create a Google Spreadsheet Copy with a name prefix and timestamp format — every workflow run archives a dated copy of your data.

Set alerts on data values

In a workflow's Alerts tab, choose a range to monitor (e.g. a revenue column), a condition and a threshold — you'll get an email whenever a value matches during a workflow run.

Fix a broken workflow trigger

If a scheduled workflow stops, use Automation → Fix broken workflow trigger to reinitialize the timer. Spreadsheets Running Workflows shows all spreadsheets with active automation.
